Chirywrites: GRIEVE

Grief is a painfully interesting journey. My grandmother was an amazing woman. She loved us with everything she had. When we were escorting her to her resting place, we were wearing similar dresses that we had bought for that day. All family members and ladies had this type of dress. Yesterday, my mom officially got her promotion, and we had a party to celebrate. It was a wonderful day. This morning, my mom woke up earlier than me, and she wore the dress. I woke up a bit later, and I picked the dress. I didn’t even realize it until my child pointed at both of us and said it. My sister-in-law, who lives a few meters from home, came at around noon; she was wearing hers. Then my aunt asked me, and that’s when it hit me. Each one of us missed her yesterday; we didn’t say it, but we thought about it. Our subconscious did what it did to make us feel close to her. If I have learned anything today,it is that family is more than blood. It is the thing that brings us close together even through the loneliness, the joys, the happy days—all of it. Family is the bond that gets us through it all. Even if you don’t want to admit it, nothing can take away the bond.
