Self-mastery does not mean perfection. It means progression. Progression towards knowing and understanding yourself. In his book Mastery, Robert Greene illustrates that when you master you gain a form of power, that mastery is in itself a form of power.
Are you progressing? Think about it like this, a growing plant, right from the time it was put in the soil as a seed, it started the process of growth. In the early stages of being put in the soil, it doesn’t immediately appear on the surface. This doesn’t mean that it’s not growing. It is growing beneath the surface. After sometime, it starts to appear on the surface and then the growth process continues.
Self-mastery is gradual. You discover new things about yourself every other day. Self-mastery is about enjoying each moment of the self-discovery journey or process and not just going through the motions. Going through the motions invites a lot of distractions; you can be pulled in whichever direction. The self-mastery journey helps one avoid this.
