Courage starts in the mind. What you know and apply. For example, this statement: the situation may be dire but I will pull through. It is true that the situation is dire and it is also true that you will pull through. Based on your mental strength, and your determination you will pull through. What does it look like to pull through? Putting in place systems or rather habits that support what you know.
On the other hand, what does it look like to focus on the direness of the situation? Probably, overthinking and over-analysing the situation instead of exploring possible solutions. Focusing on the problem instead of the solution, will cripple you mentally because you won’t move, and you will probably be depressed.
However, once you start to look for solutions, they will come and all of a sudden, your perspective will change. You will experience something different, a sort of empowerment that will let you know that truly you will pull through. Now that, is courage.
