What are you Anchoring Yourself on?

What are you Anchoring Yourself on?

Security comes from what we believe in, trust for, hope for within ourselves that cannot be shaken.

“Those who stand for nothing fall for everything.” (Alexander Hamilton). If you don’t have anything that keeps you grounded; keeps you anchored, then when the storms of life come, they will sweep you away. To whatever direction the waves are moving to. It is not easy to shake up a person who is anchored; who is grounded but one who is not, will be shaken to the core. Because really there is nothing that holds them firm.

Think about it, if really heavy rains poured in a place, and they came with riotous winds, the likelihood of uprooting trees with shallow roots is high. We have heard and seen it happen in several places.

If your foundations are on shallow things, on false things, on things that cannot hold water, the storms of life could easily shake you up. There are storms that even shake the ground. You could have laid your foundations not just on shallow things but also on shaky ground, the storms of life will shake all the unanchored things until they fall off. Mostly, because you are a person and you are real, you are alive and not dead, you are the only one left. Everything having been stripped from you. And especially things that you held on to dearly that unfortunately were either fake, unreal, false and unanchored. This includes fake friendships, other unreal or phony relationships, material things. Nothing wrong with having material things, have them, in fact most make life easier. However, have them just don’t let them have you. When they have you, they control you and not the other way round, and that is dangerous.

~Have material things but don’t let them have you~

It is important to put your anchor on the right things. You can’t place your anchor on material things and hope that in the day of adversity that that will stand. Have material things but don’t let them have you.

A strong foundation in life is built on values; core values, on purpose; the reason for your existence-what you live for. It is founded on vision; having a vision in life and for your life. It is anchored in knowing your calling, your mission, your assignment for every season in your life. Working through all these, will open doors for you, and that will allow you to have the material things but they are not the ones that got you there in the first place. It’s your values for example a good work ethic that put you in those rooms. Therefore, put some respect on your values, on your vision, because they got you there. And they will keep you there. But if you got there using material things, then you will have to sustain your way there through material things i.e., money etc. When it’s no longer there or it has reduced and you actually can only afford basic things, how will you sustain that?

Let your anchor be the intangible things that no one can take away from you. You can and please do have material things but do not let them have you; they don’t have a conscience to know that they have done you wrong. No, in times of adversity, if they were your anchor, they just fly away like they never were once with you. Put your anchor on what no one can take away from you. The God-given, that which is inbuilt in you.
