Suicide

Suicide is the intentional killing of oneself caused by self-directed injurious behaviors. A suicide attempt occurs when someone causes damage to themselves with the intention of ending their existence but does not pass away as a result of their behavior. Suicide is reported to be one of the leading causes of mortality. The most affected and prevalent group are adolescents and young adults. The main root causes of suicide in teenagers and young adults are mental health disorders and bullying. Teenagers and young adults are more prone to mental health disorders given their critical mindset and the amount of change that happens during this period. Adolescence is marked by movement, transformations, and simultaneous changes from one phase to another in a number of domains. Young individuals must decide on significant, tangible directions for their lives. Additionally, they must deal with significant difficulties in terms of creating their own identities, enhancing their self-worth, gaining more autonomy and responsibility, and establishing fresh personal relationships. They experience ongoing, shifting psychological and bodily processes themselves in the interim. Teenagers are also prone to bullying whether it is at school or cyberbullied. The bullying has been attributed to be the main reason for the high rate of suicide in teenagers. With this in mind, it is important to offer a strong support system to them and also create anti-bullying awareness in order to reduce the mortalities.
