Tesla is one of the most innovative companies of the decade. Tesla has managed to be one of the most valuable companies in the world from just producing electric cars. Apart from just producing electric cars, Tesla’s main business is in the software.
It is their software prowess that makes them outshine other car companies more so in the autonomous territory. During their AI day last year, Elon Musk announced a robot in a humanoid form called the Tesla Bot. The Tesla Bot is meant to eliminate boring and repetitive tasks. Elon claims that the robot is “friendly” meaning that you can overpower it and even outrun it when things go hay wire.
The Tesla Bot Specs
- Height- 5ft 8 inches (172.72cm)
- Weight- 56.7 Kg (125lbs)
- Speed- 8kmph (5MPH)
- Deadlift- 68kg (150lbs)
- Carry Capacity – 20.4Kg (45lbs)
- Arm Extend lift- 4.53Kg (10lbs)
Functionality.
The main aim of the Tesla bot is to eliminate dangerous, boring and repetitive tasks. For example, going to the grocery store. Going to the grocery store is basic thing that everyone does every once in while. While most people may not mind it at all, some people find it boring and this is where the Tesla bot comes in. It will help you eliminate such tasks in order for you to focus on the things that matter most to you. Some people may be wondering how all this works.
The company has not released a working one yet but theoretically, this is how it is supposed to work. The Tesla Bot has been equipped with sensors and cameras, 8 to be precise which scans the environment and takes action on the command given. All this is powered by Tesla’s own in house custom D1 chip. The Custom D1 chip utilizes a 7 nano meter manufacturing process which produces 362 teraflops of processing power with 10 TBPS of on board bandwidth.
My thoughts on this……
Well, Elon Musk is quite an ambitious person and succeeds in about all projects he undertakes, although not all of them go through. From my point of view, the Tesla Bot is not an essential need in every home. As a matter of fact, it enhances a sedentary lifestyle.
Consider a situation where you don’t have to lift a finger to do anything. All you have to do is instruct the bot what you need and it will execute the rest. I think we need to do some of these “boring” and “repetitive” tasks to keep our bodies moving. My take on this is that we do not need a robot in form of a human being in order to accomplish some of these tasks.
For example, when we need to launder our clothes we take them to a washing machine rather than the washing machine coming to your bedroom to sample your dirty clothes. When we need our dirty dishes done, we take them to a dish washer rather than the dish washer coming and sampling the dirty dishes from our dining table. You get the idea. Aside from that, there are ways where this concept could actually be helpful.
Take an instance where you have just arrived home from shopping some essentials. The Tesla bot can come in handy in helping you offload some of those items. It is only in a few scenarios like this that I can find the bot actually helpful.
Conclusion
The Tesla bot is obviously a unique product that very few companies can pull off. If anyone can pull it off, it is definitely Tesla. With their superior AI software and design engineering they are just the right guys for the job.
Elon claimed that we should expect it as early as next year. There was not a lot of information provided about the product but we will just have to wait and see when it will be unveiled. Do you think the Tesla Bot is worth spending the extra time and money to develop and would you even consider buying it?
