Qualities of an Extrovert

Qualities of an Extrovert

Like introverts, extroverts can be misunderstood. Since they tend to be bold and outgoing, some people assume they must like public speaking. Although they are better talkers than introverts, they can still find public speaking intense due to the large crowds. Also, there is a misconception that life tends to be easier for them due to knowing how to interact with others better. Social interaction is good if you manage to form meaningful networks. However, it is not an indication that life is easier for you. Finally, some assume they must have plenty of friends. Although extroverts tend to talk to many people, they do not always become friends with them.

There is still much more to be said about extroverts. By identifying their qualities, we can learn how best to interact with them. Here are the qualities of an extrovert below.

They are Assertive

Being assertive enables the extrovert to comfortably express their opinions openly. Therefore, they will not sugarcoat anything. Typically, they like to have discussions in group settings. Also, assertiveness enables extroverts to initiate conversations with others. Sometimes, you may want to make friends with someone but do not know how to. Luckily, the extrovert will be there to make you comfortable enough to speak up.

Remember those moments when you would have staff meetings with your boss? Was there a time when your boss asked the staff members for some input only for the room to remain silent? If so, that was awkward. Fortunately, extroverts can use their assertiveness to offer suggestions and actively take part in brainstorming sessions.

They are Verbally Fluent

One of the best ways of becoming fluent in a language is by talking to others. It makes sense why extroverts are fluent due to their love for interacting with others. Some people think fluency is all about pronouncing words correctly. However, it also includes the ability to articulate your thoughts. Another factor for their verbal fluency is that they love to think aloud. Thinking aloud helps them to clarify their thinking and organize their thoughts.

Again, being fluent in a language is a desirable skill when getting hired. Imagine interacting with a customer care agent who knows very little English. Due to the language barrier, you will not get the service you require. Thankfully, you can eliminate such a problem by hiring an extrovert.

They Get Energized by External Stimulation

Some people take certain drugs to increase their energy levels. As for the extrovert, all they need is social interactions to stay energized. These social interactions readily increase dopamine in their system due to their higher sensitivity to it. Introverts usually go to quiet places to de-stress and unwind. However, the extrovert finds solace in social gatherings, busy cafes, churches, etc.

Since extroverts derive energy from social interactions, the ideal career for them would be sales. An organization needs as many clients as possible. Fortunately, the extrovert will happily interact with as many people as possible to close sales.

They are Natural Storytellers

Extroverts possess all the qualities needed for storytelling. First, they tend to be overly expressive through the use of gestures, vocal variations and facial expressions. As a result, the listener will understand what emotions they are trying to convey. Due to their expressiveness, they can make good actors. Also, extroverts like being the center of attention. Therefore, they can thrive well as teachers, pastors or singers. When they tell a story to people, they derive their energy from people’s reactions.

There are a lot of things you could learn from an extrovert telling a story. First, you will expand your vocabulary since they tend to be fluent. Also, you can learn to be empathetic due to the extrovert’s ability to connect emotionally with audiences. Finally, being with an extrovert is a chance to learn about the cultural and historical practices of various societies.

They are Outgoing

As we said earlier, extroverts derive energy from interacting with others. Therefore, they tend to be friendly with nearly everyone they meet. When they interact, they expect some social reward. A good example is when you laugh after the extrovert tells a joke. The more positively you respond, the more the extrovert wants to continue interacting.

Also, extroverts simply find interacting easy. That means they are unlikely to experience any social anxiety. You may be wondering whether the extrovert boosts their confidence in some way. It turns out that extroversion is a personality trait. However, it does not mean that introverts cannot gain confidence.

They Enjoy Hobbies That Involve Social Interaction and Stimulation

One hobby that the extrovert may pick up is team sports. Examples of games that fall in this category, include hockey, volleyball, soccer, basketball, among many others. In these games, the extrovert interacts with team members by asking them to pass the ball to them. Also, interactions occur when the players get dressed in the changing room. Since extroverts love collaborating with others, it makes sense why they like team sports. For instance, in soccer, you must pass the ball to your team members to score.

Another hobby the extrovert may pursue is any group fitness class. Examples of group fitness classes, include kickboxing, Zumba and aerobics. These classes allow extroverts to exercise with other people. By exercising with others, the extrovert can get the motivation to continue working out. Also, these classes provide a good opportunity for people to compete with each other in a friendly manner.

Conclusion

Of course, no extrovert is going to fulfil all these qualities. You could meet one who is verbally fluent and not as assertive. Nevertheless, an extrovert’s company can be entertaining if you do not get easily drained from social interactions. Even if you run out of conversations, they are able to start a topic of discussion.

Not only are extroverts friendly, but they are instrumental in the workplace. Think of what will happen if you hire an extroverted salesperson. That is right, you are likely to gain and retain many clients.
