REALITY

REALITY

The way we tend to perceive things as they are or in a different dimension is not the same with everyone else. Reality shifts our attention to what’s real and fake. It’s true that every individual is entitled to his or her own opinion of what their reality is. Growing up I thought that the building near our home was the tallest one. But that wasn’t how things were because it wasn’t really that tall. That was my reality. Take these two scenarios. A child who grows up in a respectful home learns to be respectful even later in life while a child who grows up in an abusive home, takes that as normal. The realities of these two children are totally different.

Sometimes we want to step back from reality because of how our lives may turn out to be especially when challenges strike. It’s like wanting to live in a world less challenging, chaotic, full of desperation and many other things. A country’s economic growth is viewed by two individuals. One says that the economy is doing well in that there are job opportunities, infrastructural development, better health care services and good education. The other one says that the economy is at its worst level, people are struggling to make ends meet and the government isn’t doing that much to the common mwananchi.

We all have our versions of the reality we face every day. It doesn’t have to be equal to what the other person’s reality is. Life’s situations point out a different reality each time. It’s our attitude towards it that will make a difference. So, what is your version of reality??

Cecil, your contemplation on reality is thought-provoking. Indeed, the way we perceive and navigate our realities varies for each individual. The idea that challenges may prompt a desire to step back from reality resonates deeply—we all yearn for a world less chaotic at times. Your mention of differing perspectives on a country’s economic growth highlights the subjectivity of reality. Your words invite reflection on the diverse lenses through which we view and interpret our experiences. Thank you for prompting this introspection on the multifaceted nature of reality.

Exactly. Ones persons situation is their reality and we are all in different situations.
