Have you heard of lupus?

Have you heard of lupus?

I lost my younger sister to lupus early this year. shockIngly, i was ignorant of her lupus diagnosis prior to her admission due to the final flare-up that ultimately claimed her life. Thus, I feel compelled to share some information about this uncommon illness.

Lupus is an autoimmune condition . In several aspects, lupus resembles an allergic response of the body, whereby the immune system misinterprets the body’s own healthy cells and tissues as alien, consequently attacking them.

lupus is a long-term illness. That person who gets lupus will have lupus for the remainder of their lives. As with other long-term conditions like diabetes or asthma, lupus currently has no known cure. But there are drugs and ways of living.

Because lupus has so many varied symptoms, no two people are affected by it in the same way. In addition to affecting the kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, and other internal systems—and, in the worst case scenario, multiple organs simultaneously—lupus can also result in moderate skin rashes and sore joints. However, what most people don’t know is how much work it can be to get by on a daily basis when you have to deal with tremendous weariness, persistent pain, memory loss, adverse drug reactions, and/or visible skin sores.

Lupus is a disease of ups and downs; during a flare-up, your symptoms get worse and you feel worse; during a remission, your symptoms get better and you feel better.

It might be easier for others to accept a victims’ physical and emotional fluctuations as well as the potential need to adjust commitments, plans, and schedules if they are aware of the unpredictable nature of lupus.

Lupus is not infectious. It is impossible to “give” or “catch” lupus from someone.

HIV and AIDS are not connected to lupus. The immune system is overactive in lupus and underactive in HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

Cancer and lupus are unrelated to one another. Malignant, aberrant tissues that develop quickly and infiltrate neighboring tissue are what cause cancer.
