It took me a long time to discover that I couldn’t force someone to love me, even if I had been attempting to do so for a long time. I battled to get the affection of possible mates and make friends with those who weren’t supposed to be in my life. I came to the realization that the individuals I desired weren’t my people when they rejected me. For a brief time, I understood the universal truth of love: you can’t force someone to love you if they don’t want to. Your people are the ones who embrace you and have your back no matter what, when it comes to distance, time, or behavior.
I stopped attempting to push true love and began to love myself more, learning to let it find me when it is ready. I let genuine love come into my life in strange ways, and one day a straightforward hello from a lovely person let me see why the others had failed.
I was grateful that I had given up on pursuing relationships with the wrong people and followed my heart; it had truly changed my life. You can, too.
Self love is the best gift that one can gift oneself.
