The series premiered on June 2013 on Lifetime. It was created by Marc Cherry, directed by Paul McGuigan and produced by Marc Cherry. It ended on August 2016 but on a cliffhanger due to low ratings. There are four seasons, each with a different mystery, plot and other new characters. Filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia although the series is set in Beverly Hills. It is based on a Mexican tv series from 2009 called Ellas son…la Alegria del Hogar. It ran for one season. The name translates to The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood. It is categorized as a soap opera, comedy drama and mystery.
Marisol, an English college professor becomes a maid in an affluent neighborhood to collect evidence to prove her son’s innocence. That is the plot of season one. The series follows five maids who work for their wealthy employers in the upscale neighborhood of Beverly Hills. But it does not exclude the wealthy employers and their dramatic stories. The other maids Rosie, Carmen, Zoila and Valentina each have their own action-packed stories.
Rosie, is a sweet girl with strong morals. She moved to the the United States from Guadalajara, Mexico.She left her son for a better life and she tries to bring him to the US. Luckily she succeeds but through unusual means. She also falls in love with her married boss ‘Mr Spence’. But ‘Mr Spence’ wife is having an affair so it justifies her infatuation. Spencer and Peri Westmore are both actors in Hollywood.
Carmen has big dreams of making it big in the music industry. She decides to go work for a Latin singer, Alejandro to further her advances of being a singer. Her plans are constantly obstructed by Odessa, the house manager. She ends up dating her colleague, Sam. Carmen’s plans work when Alejandro is need of her assistance in a delicate matter. Odessa later discovers she has cancer.
Zoila is Valentina’s mother. She is friendly with her employer, Genevieve who she has worked years for. The relationships and hardships as friends are mentioned throughout the series. Geneveive has been through seven husbands. Zoila tries to control Valentina’s life in a ‘mother’s way’ which can be seen as unhealthy.
Valentina is the youngest of them all. At nineteen years old she works with her mother at Genevieve’s house. She aspires to be a fashion designer. She has a crush on Remy, Genevieve’s son. Her efforts to make Remy fall in love with her are superb. They involve cooking for him and convincing him to move back home.
Other notable characters are the Powells. Adrian and Evelyn have various antics that bring out laughter, tears and sometimes queries. They are old money and still dress like it. Adrian wears suits all the time.
The series is dramatic and brings out laughter. The characters overcome adversity. Throughout they end up in strange situations that have unexpected plot twists. They go through heartbreaks, comas and death.
