I grew up in a Christian society and lately, am having a difficult time understanding some its doctrines. I do not get why the faith leans so much on the blood theory. It scares the hell out of me. The blood of animals and apparently a human was used to appease a God who was angry. My latest theory is that some early humans created this blood religion to instil fear in people. The more the fear the religion held, the more control it had on the masses.
Blood is a sign of life. Blood is shed when there is war, thus blood is never a sign of peace. Thus, invoking blood in a religion was a good move to empower ‘the faith.’
Now that I have a theory on blood religion, am amazed at how crafty human beings can be. We have invented electricity, cars, and technology, all to make a life better. At the same time, we have created a myriad of religions as an attempt to understand our existence and what follows after death.
However, the darkness that seems to permeate most of these religions does not sit well with me. I prefer a less scary thing. I prefer a God who is not blood-thirsty and full of rage. I prefer to perceive God as full of love and wisdom. I believe that in our current world fear has no place in our conscience. We are an enlightened people and religions can no longer prey on our vulnerabilities.
